I saw a picture of him as the big dog demon thing, and he had this big ruff of fur like, over his right shoulder... And kinda across his chest, so I think that big fluffy thing has something to do with his demon form. Yup. *nods* Like, it's... I dunno. But it's something.

I,personally, think it's some kind of fur. I think it holds part of his demonic power,like it's connected to him. I KNOW it isn't a tail...at least...I'm pretty sure it isn't. It isn't connected in the NORMAL spot a tail would be connected to o_0. I've also heard a lot of people say it's an animal pelt. I'm not really sure about that one either, but it's possible. =)

its not his tail! no no no no no! if you look at his butt it isnt connected to it! and also in the episode when he first meets rin he uses it as a pillow. just for the record it usually hurts if you put too much pressure on a certain part of your body. also, when sesshomau is in his demon form he has some fluffy stuff going over his sholder just as the fluffy thing does. in conclusion, its just a fluffy item, NOT HIS TAIL

I think it is a tail cause in the third movie when he is fighting Takemaru in the fortress near the end, Takemaru stabs only the fluffy thing and blood squirts out. It has to be a tail, why else would it bleed.

It's anything but a tail! I've seen backshots (which are very hot, mind you) and that FEATHER BOA is not his tail! It wasn't connected to his...well you know.

Do you really wanta know what it is? Is it just killing you? LOL. No, its not a boa, its not anything else like that, it IS his tail. Why do people doubt this? For one, I know its his tail.. because.. have you read all the manga? It tell you IN the manga, well.. at least in the Japanese manga. I don't read the english manga - so.. maybe thats why it makes so many u.s citizens wonder. I think its just hilarious. ANyways.. you can also see that its his tail when Sesshomaru transforms into his Full Demon Form. People don't know much about sesshomaru - or Jaken, or rin. Jaken was a lord of hiw own clan, which was being attacked by a monsterous female demon when sesshomaru came along and it happened that the demon was in sesshomarus way - so he destroyed it. simple as that. and so Jaken left his people to.. be the servant of the demon who saved his people [although he was bored being a lord himself /: (of course can you blame him for wanting to be around that great of a creature as Lord Sesshomaru??? [Makes me mad how Kagura has a crush on him. - -] Well, now that you know what his "fluffy thing" is.. does it calm u? Thats right, blood has eben shown from his tail a number of times through out the manga and anime. Hmm.. I wonder what else could bleed on him that looks like a tail??? - - Believe me, it IS a Tail. I have an idea. It might be his mane. When he transforms the only thing that it could possibly is the mane. I mean it looks like dog hair to begin with. I looked at a book. It was "The Art of InuYasha". When looking at Sesshomaru in his true form I say that it had to be it. well. Thats my opinion. ^^ sorry if it is wrong!

Upon reading a piece of fan fiction it was stated that the piece of furr was a piece of his mothers pelt. I e-mailed the writer and asked if this was true. She later responded with an afferimative yes and stated that she had a friend investigate it and discovered that it was indeed his mothers pelt. I hear many say its a tail but if you take to notice it isn't even connected to the space in which you would find a tail...

If you look closely in certain scenes, especially the scene in the third movie when he's standing behind Inu no Taisho, you'll notice that the fluffy thing isn't actually physically attached to his rear. Which kind of debunks the tail theory. Of course, there are a number of other possibilities. One is that it is IS his tail, but it detaches when he turns into his humanoid form. It doesn't really look alot like the tail he has in his puppy form, though. There are alot of possibilities. Personally, I think it's something he had made from his pelt to serve as a sort of equivalant to Inuyasha's fire-rat clothing. Youkai seem to have really unusual clothes to go with their really unusual weapons. The fact that it bleeds and moves could just be part of its own youkai-wierdness. I've also heard the rumor that it was made from his mother's pelt after she died, but I somehow doubt that, given that Inu no Taisho had something really similar. Or, who knows, maybe all that fur just needs to manifest itself somehow after they transform, and carrying it around is easier than being fuzzy... ^_^;

For me, the fluffy thing looks like IY and Sessh's father's eirloom to him. I have this feeling because in the movie that talks about the three swords of heaven hell and land, I saw inuyasha 's father and he has the fluffy thing too. But then I also agree that the fluffy thing could be a tail too. P.S. it is kind of weird though, like how come sesshomaru's tail be on his shouder?

I think it is his father's pelt...Sound kind of bad (carrying around a piece of his dead dad's skin? O_o) , but I thought I heard it in one of the episodes. It's his only memory of his father...But I might be mistaken.
