I personally believe it's a tail, he is a dog demon after all and as we all know dogs do have tails, even in his demon form he has this huge tail. Alot of people keep saying it's a boa and Sess is homosexual but there are SO many reasons that those ideas are wrong. Sess doesn't seem like the guy to "flaunt" around and be all pretty and well... he's to cute to be gay, it would be some sort of horrible horrible tragity for us women. That's what I think.

i think that its a weapon/fashion statement when hes in his human form but when he is in his puppy form it turns into that little fur wall thing that runs along his shoulder and back....yeah...fluffy!!! *chases sesshoumaru around*

Rumiko Takahashi states that it is his tail. Doesn't it bug you that Sess, Kouga, and Shippou have tails but Inu only has ears? I think that's stupid. Even Inu no Taisho has a fluffly thing. Pft.

If you look at pictures of Sess's tail and compare them with said "Fluffy Thing," you'll notice the two aren't very similar. However, the color/texture of the "Fluffy Thing" corresponds with the color/texture of the fluffy stuff around the neck of Sess when he's in demon form. Maybe it is some sort of boa, but one that is made from his own flesh, like some sort of demon appendage. I still don't know, but that's my deduction.

Technically it is not a tail and this is coming from someone who knows just about everything there is to know about Inuyasha, if you have seen movie 3 you could tell that the fur around Sesshoumaru is just basically the same thing as his father only his father had it along his shoulders so yes I think that it is part of him but it is not a tail Rumiko just thought of it as a dog Youkai sign! I heard that the "fluffy thing" around Sesshomaru's neck is his mother's pelt. Of course the original source of this rumor is currently unremembered but I, personally anyway, think it makes sense.

Well, if you look at his fully transformed state, you can see that there is kinda a "fluffy thing" in the same general area... So I think that it might be part of his fur or something. If that theory is wrong, I think it is a tail. But first I think it is his fur. There is also someone else who thinks this... But I can't remember where her/his site is... -_-

Well. About the fluffy object Sesshoumaru carries, I really don't know what it is, but, I personally think it's just a boa. As you've mentioned earlier, he DID use it as a weapon several times. But, it really confuses me, because, if it is only a boa/weapon then how did it bleed when Jakotsu slices it? Maybe, it because that Jakotsu's sword cut THROUGH the fluffy thing and damaged Sesshoumaru's arm. So, out of all the possible guesses there are, I think a boa makes more sense. ( You were right about Youko Kurama from YYH. Sesshoumaru and Kurama are similar. They both have golden eyes, silver, and cold attitude. ^^ ! ) Anyways, it would be nice it you would email me your comments after reading this.... Thankies!

Well, a lot of people think it's his tail, but if you look closely, it's not connected to anything other than his belt. When he transforms, it's not the same as "that fluffy thing." So, I'm going with 70% of the fans and saying it's just a fluffy boa he wears to 'intimidate' his enemies, such as the tribal markings on his face.

I think it is a pelt of some other demon he has slain. That might explain why Inuyasha-sama can't cut through it, and how Sesshy can use it in many different ways.

hiya! my $0.02. In the official japanese guide for the series, under Sesshoumaru's attacks, they list Kegawa no Riyou which I think is fur/pelt...user. And considering he can take it off, I refuse to believe its a tail! Plus, I think he shows his REAL tail in eps. 81 after the fight w/ Naraku, but I'd have to see it again to make sure. I also though Takahashi said it was originally supposed to be a boa thing, but then it got too big so she didn't know what it was; she also called it mokimoki [which I thought was adorable] i just wish I could find that article again. I know it's on his true form as well, but he's got ruff on his paws too, and it's not like he's also wearing big poufs around his wrist in human form, so maybe it's simply a trait he adapted onto himself. His dad has one too, but its double and hangs from his armor like a cape..maybe it's an Inu clan kinda thing? But still not a tail! I refuuuuse...

Well I think that Sesshoumaru-sama's so called " Fluffy thing" is either a boa or his tail. i cant tell which ^_^ but it can also be a long line of fur because if you look at his dog form it has the fluffy thing but smaller. believe what you want.

Well, I heard on one website that it wasn't a tail. It defidently wasn't a tail, nad that it had something to do with his anscestors or fathers. Actually I think it is his fore fathers or something. This person had proof, though I was to lazy to look. This is what she/he put- Go to Inuyasha movies and click on Inuyasha movie 3:the sword of world conquest- part 2 Then click on the 16th picture and you'll see it --- check it out if u want if the info's false then perhaps it is a tail.

I dont think its a tail although I do think its alive. The reason I dont think its a tail is because he takes it off and uses it as a pillow in one of the episodes. (the one where he meets Rin.) People could argue that its still attached but both ends are visible around him.

I think it might be a family thing cause his father had something similar except his was used as a cloak instead of a shoulder thing.

Maybe its a type armor, like the fire-rats robe is for inuyasha. The fluffy could be something his father had given to him when he was born, like the fire robe was given inuyasha at his birth.
